Armed police descended on an address in Knowle this morning (November 2) - one of three properties raided by officers as part of an investigation into a kidnapping and a firearm offence last month. Locals watched on as officers surrounded the property on the corner of Exmouth Road and Somerdale Avenue at around 9.45am.

The property consists of a house and garage, and two people unconnected to the investigation were filmed on a mobile phone being led out of the house. One of them later told Bristol World that the armed officers had pointed a gun at his head.

The other two warrants were carried out at addresses on North Street, Bedminster and Hannover Road, Redfield. Two men were arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and kidnap. They are being held in police custody. A number of weapons have also been recovered.

Avon and Somerset Police issued a statement to Bristol World on what happened. It said officers carried out the three warrants as part of its probe into the kidnaping of a woman and the threatening of another with a firearm. Both victims have been safeguarded and are being provided with support, the force said.

Inspector Chris Starr said: “We understand the sight of armed officers can alarm members of the public but their involvement was purely precautionary. Searches are currently being carried out at three properties as part of our investigation and neighbourhood officers will remain in the area to provide the community with reassurance.

“Anyone who has any concerns about this morning’s activity is encouraged to approach an officer and they will be happy to talk.”

The footage of the warrant in Knowle shows armed officers entering the home and pulling two people out of the building before questioning them. Their faces have been pixulated to protect their identity. They are unconnected to the investigation.

Speaking to Bristol World, the man said police had broken through his front door and pointed a gun at his head before searching through his belongings. The door to the connecting garage also appeared to have been broken.
