A popular pub and restaurant in south Bristol is calling last orders.

Newstead Sayer, who runs the Star & Dove on St Luke’s Road in Totterdown, has announced he has made the "very hard" decision to move on to pastures new.

The chief proprietor relaunched the pub - previously known as the Cumberland - in 2019, creating a "classic British pub, proudly offering an authentic modern British menu".

It has now been put on the market by the pub company Stonegate Group to find a new operator.

In an Instagram post, the Star & Dove wrote: “It’s last orders for us.

“We’ve had to make some very hard decisions recently (we won’t bore you with the details) but we're deciding to move on to pastures new.

“The Star & Dove family past and present have loved being part of the Totterdown local community and Bristol's thriving hospitality scene for the last four years.

“We miss every part of it - but we’re still not gone yet.

“We don’t know the exact dates but it’s looking like May-June, giving plenty of time for leaving parties, everyone to get their last roasts and evening meals booked in, and everything in between.”

In the comments, people have reacted with sadness to the news.

“This is heartbreaking. Such a massive loss for our neighbourhood,” wrote one person.

“What a huge shame. Fantastic pub and restaurant,” added another.

“Absolutely gutted! Such a loss,” said a third.
