The Stockwood Post Office will serve its final customers on January 13 and the McColl’s shop will close on January 22.

Aside from Stockwood, the McColl’s stores closing include Stapleton, Bedminster and Cribbs Causeway. The company identified them as ‘loss-making for some time’.

As for the closure of the Post Office inside the Stockwood store, a spokesperson said: “We will undertake an assessment of the local area and will be working closely with nearby postmasters to support them with the likely increase in footfall for both their Post Office and their own retail services and will review requirements for the local community.”

The nearest Post Office branches for Stockwood residents will now be Keynsham or Broadwalk Shopping Centre on Wells Road. There is also a Post Office at the McColl’s on The Square in Knowle Park.

Speaking at the time of the Stockwood Post Office closure announcement, Graham Morris, Conservative Councillor of Stockwood Ward, said: “For an area which has a large, elderly population, it is essential that we retain such facilities; to both provide a vibrancy and dynamism as we look to rebuild our high streets following the pandemic and to ensure residents have a means of communicating.”
