A well-used bridge at Bristol’s floating harbour is set to shut for 10 weeks this summer for essential repair works.
Redcliffe Bascule Bridge will be shut off ‘for around 10 weeks’ from August 1, Bristol City Council said, while the machinery that opens and closes it is repaired.

Hide AdIt will remain in the upright, open position while the £2.8m scheme is carried out, closing to both pedstrians and traffic before it reopens in October.
But further stages of work that will require some lane closures and temporary traffic signals will follow.
Diversion along Bristol Bridge
Bristol Bridge, a two minute drive or eight minute walk away along Redcliffe Street, is currently closed to normal cars but will temporarily allow access to all traffic while repairs to the bascule bridge take place.
It means road users will not be fined for crossing Bristol Bridge - as long as they follow the official diversion.

Hide AdCouncillor Don Alexander, Cabinet Member for Transport, said the Council understood that closing Redcliffe Bridge woud cause disruptuon to residents, commuters and local businesses.
He added: “We will put a clear diversion in place and will do our best to keep the closure to a minimum.
“This much needed investment into the refurbishment works will mean larger boats will once again be able to sail through the Welsh Back.
“ It will also protect the structure of the bridge, while helping to reduce noise pollution from traffic.”

Hide AdCoun Alexander also encouraged motorists to travel to the city centre by bus, foot or bike in order to help reduce pressure on the road network.
“Not only will this help to keep the roads operating smoothly, it will also help us to deliver clean air and become a carbon neutral and climate resilient city,” he said.
