Ramen chain Tonkotsu is opening its first Bristol restaurant. Located on Baldwin Street, it will be the chain’s 17th opening, bringing its signature bowls of ramen, gyoza, and its famous chicken kara-age to Bristol for the first time.

The Bristol opening signifies the continued success and growth of the brand and its third restaurant outside of London, joining the locations at Selfridges Birmingham and a Brighton restaurant which opened in 2021.

With another London restaurant site in the pipeline for this year, Tonkotsu are making steady growth towards 20 sites, amongst a period of strong performance for the group.

Ken Yamada, Co-Founder, says: “After fighting through the last couple of years of Brexit, Covid and inflation, we’ve come out the other side confident and excited about the future. With continued progressive menu development and strong operations, we’ve been outperforming the market for the last six months, and I’m sure this Bristol restaurant will add to the ongoing strong group performance”.

First launched in Soho in 2012 by co-founders Ken Yamada and Emma Reynolds, Tonkotsu was at the forefront of London’s ramen craze.

Since day one, Tonkotsu has been dedicated to producing quality ramen from scratch, making all its own noodles, stocks, and gyoza fresh each day.

Each bowl of steaming hot ramen is made with Tonkotsu’s own fresh noodles, crafted in-house daily in three different types using mid-century machines imported from Tokyo.

The noodles are then cooked to order for precisely 32 seconds in boiling water for that perfect medium bite. The stocks are handmade by the team each day and simmered for up to 18 hours to get the maximum flavour into each bowl of ramen.

Tonkotsu Bristol will be located near Bella Pasta on Baldwin Street and it will open daily from 12pm – 10pm.
