Pubs and bars in Bristol with great beer gardens: 11 of the best for the sunny bank holiday
Bristol does beer gardens brilliantly when the sun shines but where are the best ones?
With the bank holiday weekend set to be an absolute scorcher, it’s about time we rounded up the best beer gardens in Bristol.
The good news is that Bristol is great city with plenty of options for alfresco drinking and eating, so there’s room for everyone.
All you need to do is pick which one matches your vibe the most over the bank holiday break. Of course, with the three-day weekend here, there’s no excuse not to visit more than one of these great beer gardens.

1. Bambalan, City Centre
If views are what you are after and a feeling of being on holiday somewhere a little more exotic than Bristol, then Bambalan roof terrace might be just the spot for you. Often hosting DJ sets and an Ibiza atmosphere, there’s good food on offer and plenty of cocktails, too.

2. The Crown, Saltford
It doesn’t give too much away from the road - the busy A4 from Bristol to Bath - but step inside this old coaching inn and you’ll soon discover one of the best beer gardens for miles. It’s the perfect spot to spend a few hours in the sun with a pint and one of the pub’s famous pizzas or pies.

3. The Ostrich, Redcliffe
One of the largest beer gardens in the city and one of the best boozers in the city, The Ostrich has an idyllic setting on the edge of the water, with a view across to Thekla and the harbourside. A great thing about this beer garden is that you can enjoy it whatever the weather, as since they revamped the space, there are plenty of undercover areas to choose from as well as open-air spots.

4. The Lazy Dog, Ashley Down
The Lazy Dog in Ashley Down has a wonderful little beer garden (well, it’s not that small) with a walled garden, lawn, plenty of tables and pontoon lights that twinkle away over your head as you enjoy beers from local breweries and great food.
