Proposals to build more than 500 homes on the edge of village near Bristol

Developers are hoping to build more than 500 homes on the edge of a village near Bristol.

Taylor Wimpey is preparing proposals to build 515 homes near Backwell, at Grove Farm and Burnt House Farm.

Plans include an extension to the Festival Way cycle route and a potential bus link connecting the A370 and Station Road through the development.

Houses will be a mix of one, two, three, four, and five bedroom properties, of which 35% will be affordable housing. All homes will meet the government’s ‘new future homes standard’ which becomes law in 2025.

A spokesperson said: “This development will provide an excellent choice for all buyers, from working professionals and young couples taking their first step on the housing ladder, to growing families or downsizers.

“Our plans for the site will deliver a high-quality scheme that, if approved, will provide much-needed new homes to meet the unmet housing need of North Somerset.”

The development would also include children’s play areas, a community hub, and land for a primary school.

A new ‘nature park’ would be created at the south of the development, across Chelvey Road, with new bat habitats as well as community growing patches, new orchards, and natural play areas.

Members of the public are being invited to have their say on the plans at a public consultation event on Wednesday, September 13. The event will be held at the Backwell WI Hall on Station Road from 2.30pm to 8.30pm.
