The landlord of a popular pub on the outskirts of Bristol says he will close the doors of his business next month.

Mitchell Hoare has run the Grapevine Brasserie gastropub - previously The Salutation - in Mangotsfield for the past six years but it will close on May 5.

The announcement has been greeted with a huge reaction from regulars who are sad to see their local pub close.

One customer said: “Sad to hear this, have lovely memories of meals shared with family and friends at GVB. Great food and lovely staff.” Another posted on Facebook: “So sad to hear. Loved having a decent pub on our door step.”

Landlord Mitchell Hoare, whose family also run the Mokka cafes in Downend and Keynsham, told Bristol World: “We really appreciate all the lovely comments from everyone, it really means a lot to us. It was an extremely difficult decision for the family but one that had to unfortunately be made.”

Mitchell went on to say that the main reason for deciding to close the pub was simply because it never recovered from the pandemic.

“Since opening after COVID our daily trade has dropped massively and with the ever growing costs of products and utilities combined we were just unable to continue. We have had an amazing six years at The Grapevine Brasserie and we will miss being there but we have had some amazing memories.”

Mitchell said he did not know who is taking over the pub or exactly what is happening with it as it is a Stonegate Pub Partners site.

The pub is already being marketed on Stonegate’s website with an annual rent of £44,000. The company says the pub has a potential business turnover of £631,014 per annum.
