Popular Bristol pizza restaurant closes its doors suddenly

One of Bristol’s most popular vegan restaurants has closed its doors after just over two years.

Award-winning Purezza on Gloucester Road opened in September 2020 after success with sites in London and Brighton, where it scooped National Pizza of the Year in the UK and Vegan Restaurant of the Year.

The restaurant is known for using its own plant-based mozzarella and sourdough bases made with organic wholegrain flours.

The pizzeria on Gloucester Road served a full gluten-free menu, cocktails and ‘raw’ dishes including a pizza with a base made from seeds and nuts.

But the restaurant has closed suddenly, leaving many of its customers surprised and saddened.

A message posted on the website says: “Our lease on Gloucester Road has sadly come to an end. Purezza pizzas will be back in Bristol in the near future”.

Posting on the Bristol Vegans Facebook page, disappointed diner Anna Powell said: “Just had my booking for Purezza cancelled, it says it’s closing and not reopening.”

Alexandra Tucholska posted: “I never felt quite satisfied with the pizzas. From being too thin to too oily, my final straw was when they served us a really small calzone for £15. I’m sad to see it go but there are now better places to go.”

There is no indication when and where Purezza will relocate in Bristol. When contacted by Bristol World , a spokesperson from Purezza said: “The Bristol site hasn’t closed permanently and we are reopening soon. We will send out more details later this month”.
