Police helicopter called over south Bristol after reports of men seen with ‘handgun’

Police are searching for a group of men after receiving reports from the public that a group had been seen with ‘a handgun’ last night (December 15) in south Bristol.

A National Police Air Service helicopter was dispatched over the area after Avon and Somerset Police were informed at 10.45pm. Officers attended the scene, in Stockwood, but the group in question was not found.

A police spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.45pm yesterday (Wednesday 14 December) to Stockwood Lane, Bristol, following reports of men seen with what was described as a handgun.

“Firearms officers attended the scene, along with colleagues from the National Police Air Service (NPAS). A search of the area was carried out and there was no trace of the vehicle of the suspects. Enquiries are ongoing.
