A south Bristol road has been closed by police after a pedestrian was 'seriously injured' in a hit-and-run.

Police are at the scene of the incident on Ilminster Avenue in Knowle West, which they say happened at about 9.10am today (Thursday, January 18).

An Avon & Somerset Police spokesperson said: "A pedestrian was injured in a collision with a van and has suffered serious injuries. Officers have not yet traced their next of kin. 

"The driver failed to stop at the scene.

"Ilminster Avenue is fully closed near its junction with Tavistock Road and Connaught Road while the ambulance service attend to the injured person."
