Pubs are often stalwarts of a neighbourhood in Bristol, a place to bring back happy times of a misspent youth or a sense of community and belonging.
However, scores of pubs have been closed across the city in recent decades, leaving residents with nothing but fond memories. Bristol World has collected images showing seven pubs which have been closed throughout the decades.
Some would have failed reopenings and several made way for developments, leaving little trace of their existence if not for the photographs we have pulled together for this list. 5. Cross Hands, Bedminster Down
The Cross Hands pub closed on October 6, 2019. The building dates back to 1824 and was ran by Isaac Hall and his family until 1915.
6. Cobden Arms, Cobden St
The Cobden Arms off licence was at 4 Cobden Street, near the junction with Church Road in Lawrence Hill. The houses on the road were built during the 1860s though he off licence was established two decades later - this picture was taken between 1950-1963 while Rosina Palmer was the licensee. The Cobden Arms closed in 1966 before being demolished alongside most buildings in the area at the time. The Cashmore House tower block is based on the site now.
