Bristol Animal Rescue Centre (BARC) has teamed up with BristolWorld hoping to find a forever home for the dozen or so dogs in its care recently. But, the centre is home to other animals who are equally as deserving to find themselves a loving owner.
BARC has supported all of Bristol’s furry creatures since 1887 and, due to the cost of living crisis, has reported that more and more animals are being handed over as owners can no longer afford to care for them.
From cats to rabbits and even a tiny hamster, we’ve put together a list of six animals currently available for adoption at the centre. Some may have specific requirements from prospective owners due to circumstances in their previous household. For more information, visit www.bristolarc.org.uk/
1. Rodney
Rodney is a lovely boy who likes to explore his surroundings very thoroughly! To begin with, Rodney can be shy and may not want to come and say hello. However, once he gets to know you he can be very affectionate and will rub up against your leg for attention. This beautiful boy would like a quieter home without too much hustle and bustle, so that he can build up his confidence at his own pace. When he first arrived at the centre, Rodney was quite matted and we sadly had to shave off his luscious fur. Although his haircut looks unfortunate right now, his fur will grow back healthier than ever. Rodney’s adopters will need to have him groomed regularly to prevent future matting. This little guy simply cannot wait to pack his bags and move into his new home with his new family!
2. Frenchie
Frenchie is a confident, playful girl who would love a neutered male companion, with a docile personality . She is friendly and inquisitive and will receive affection on her own terms. Frenchie is a very intelligent girl who loves new enrichment and toys to play with.
3. Buddy
Buddy is a lovely little guy who is looking for a home with a large tank and lots of deep, paper-based bedding to meet his burrowing needs. He would also appreciate lots of fun accessories and a wheel for him to run on. Like all Roborovski hamsters, Buddy is very shy and much prefers to be left to his own devices. This lovely boy would be best suited to owners who have researched the species, and are interested in providing a fun and stimulating environment for Buddy.
4. Primrose
Primrose is an active, young female rabbit looking who is looking for a home with an existing neutered, male rabbit to be bonded with (experienced adopters will be needed to carry out the bonding process at home). This lovely girl arrives with three other rabbits after being found abandonned by the side of a road. After a while, all of the rabbits had to be separated and we haven’t been able to find a compatible match for Primrose since. Primrose requires lots of space and things to do in her new home. She is toilet trained – although she may need to get used to this again in her new home. Primrose has become more and more inquisitive regarding human interaction, and will now approach her carers for some attention readily. She is not keen on being picked up, but she will tolerate it when needed. As Primrose has been with us for quite some time and she has become quite bored of her environment! She would really love to find her perfect home soon!
