Gloucestershire TV star Joel Dommett shares embarassment as wife pranks him in public

Comedian, actor and presenter Joel - who was born in Rockhampton, a village half an hour away from Bristol- appeared on the BBC programme The One Show this week.
The 39-year-old host of The Masked Singer was on the popular chat show to talk about his latest stand-up tour ‘Happy Idiot’ which commenced in Bristol in February and runs until April 2026 thanks to an extra added London date.

Hide AdDuring the chat, Joel told host Alex Jones that he sometimes included material about his wife Hannah in his stand up shows.
It was a however a story about his wife playing a joke on him instead that caused one of the biggest giggles from the audience.


Telling the story, Joel said: “We were in an aiport and we were very delayed and there was this guy behind me and she goes ‘oh, I think that guy over there wants a photo with you’.
“I was like ‘okay’ so I walked over to this guy and said ‘would you like a photo with me’ and he went [imitates an unsure voice] ‘yeah, okay’”

Hide AdThe crowd then begans laughing as if seeing where the story is going as Joel continues: “I looked around and my wife was laughing so hard. I was like ‘who you laughing at?’
“She was like ‘he didn’t want a photo with you, I was just bored and thought it would be funny’.
“So I just went up to a random man and went ‘would you like a photo with me?’”.
A clip of the story was then shared by the BBC One Show Instagram to their story with overlay text that read “@joeldommett ‘Would you like a photo with me? [laughing emoji]”

Hide AdJoel and his wife Hannah first started dating in 2016 when she sent him a “cat with the heart eye emoji” in an Instagram direct message.
They then married in 2019, began a podcast together called ‘Never Have I Ever’ in 2022 and in September 2023 they welcomed their first child.
The One Show airs at 7pm on BBC One ever weekday.
Joel Dommett’s Happy Idiot Tour is then still running at venues across the UK.
Six new dates were added last week, these are: Chelenham (Sept 14), Swindon (Oct 1), Chelmsford (Oct 15), Hertford (Oct 21), Poole (Oct 24), Yeovil (Nov 1) and London (Apr 24 2026).
