A dedicated Bristol nurse requires life-saving treatment in Germany.

Mildred (Millie) Olika was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer with Brain metastases, and chemotherapy will not suffice to improve her prognosis.

During a routine check-up at Southmead Hospital in 2021, a nodule (a potential sign of cancer) was discovered on her left lung. Unfortunately, she was not informed and was sent home.

Earlier last month, Mildred began to experience thunderclap headaches, nausea, and hot flashes and was rushed to hospital.

After multiple visits, tests and biopsies, it was confirmed that she has secondary cancer, with the primary source believed to be a lesion in her lower left lung that metastasised to her brain.

After extensive research, her family have identified life-enhancing treatments offered in Germany that have shown promising results and could potentially extend her prognosis by years.

The treatment includes Trans-Pulmonary Chemoembolization to target the primary lung tumour, immunotherapy vaccination for sustained remission, fighting cancer cells and targeted Radiotherapy for brain metastasis with the first appointment on April 19 if the treatment is paid upfront.

Unfortunately, the treatment costs €81,000 (approximately £69,390.02) and is not covered by the NHS due to the hefty price tag.

This is why Mildred's family have turned to the community, family and friends to raise the funds through a crowdfunding campaign. So far, they have raised £25,428 of the £70,000 target since it was created two days ago.

Mildred's daughters Stacey, Lydia and Emily shared: "Our mum has dedicated her life to caring for others as a nurse. Now she finds herself in need of care and treatment. It's our turn to rally around her in her time of need.
