‘One of the worst’ examples of overtaking - Car narrowly avoids lorry as it overtakes cyclist

Video footage showing a car narrowly avoiding a lorry and a bike has been described by Avon and Somerset Police as ‘’one of the worst’’ examples of overtaking ever seen.
The film shows a driver swerving around a cyclist to avoid an oncoming truck.

Hide AdIt was posted by the force’s road policing unit and filmed by the cyclist who can be heard shouting in anger and fright.
Despite solid white road markings the grey BMW 3-series attempts to pass the bike as a huge oncoming HGV approaches.
Avon and Somerset Police called it one of the worst close calls they had ever received.
The footage was shown in court this week to obtain a conviction against the motorist.

Hide AdThe driver was convicted, receiving nine penalty points on their licence along with a £660 fine, £66 surcharge and another £110 in costs.
@ASPRoadSafety tweeted: ‘’One of the worst #closepass reports we’ve received.
‘’Footage viewed several times in court on Tuesday to accentuate the gravity of the overtaking manoeuvre.”
