It’s the first time The Mouse in Westbury-on-Trym has been on the market for 20 years.

Landlords Billy and Elaine Monaghan have decided to leave The Mouse and retire from the pub industry.

The pub is well known for its award-winning beer garden which has space for 100 people and far-reaching views across Westbury-on-Trym towards Blaise Castle. The Mouse also has a real fire and plenty of original features.

Elaine Monaghan told Bristol World: “It has been a hard decision but we feel the time is right for the next chapter of our lives. After losing my dad recently, I feel it’s now time to spend more time with my family.

“We have never been busier but it’s taking its toll on our bodies. We’re all getting older.

“We have worked really hard to bring the pub to what it is now. It’s like the TV show Cheers - everyone knows your name and everyone looks after each other and that’s what we always wanted in a pub.”

Property agents Sprosen describe The Mouse as a ‘superb public house in a sought after Bristol location’. The pub also has three-bedroom accommodation.

It has been listed with a price of £63,000 ‘to include the inventory, leasehold property and goodwill’. The agents say they have been advised that the pub is trading at £425,000 per annum on a 90/10 wet/dry split.

The Mouse is available on the basis of a renewable lease with eight years remaining with Red Oak Taverns.
