New Chinese fishmongers with live lobster, crab and eels opens in Bristol city centre

It will soon be joined by a butchers, bakery and Thai restaurant

A new Chinese fishmongers with live lobster, crab and eels has opened in Bristol city centre.

The new space, which also has a greengrocers area, has opened on the first floor of the Little Chinatown building in Nelson Street.

A new butchers, bakery and Thai restaurant are also due to open in the space later this month. It was previously all one restaurant.

George Lai, owner of Little Chinatown, told BristolWorld: “I think people can’t get fresh seafood or meat inside Bristol city centre and it’s something we can offer very uniquely to people for that type of food.

“To be able to offer this to the community is brilliant. People have to go to London, get it posted or use Amazon, and that costs a lot of money and they don’t see it.”

The new fishmongers, above the 168 Oriental supermarket, also sells oysters and mussels as well as fish including sea bass, salmon, plaice, mackerel, turbot, brill, tuna and trout.

It is one of a number of new ventures for George, who is converting Sai Kung Cafe on Park Street into a cart noodle cafe and has opened the new 168 Kitchen restaurant on College Green.

A new mural has also been painted on the side of the Little Chinatown building to mark the Chinese Year of the Dragon.

Here are 12 photos of the new fishmongers:
