Massive bargain food outlet opens on industrial estate in Bristol

A huge new food store promising massive bargains is opening in Bristol tomorrow (Saturday, December 9).

Bargain Brands Food is opening at Avon Riverside Industrial Estate on Victoria Road in Avonmouth, in response to popular demand.

The food outlet specialises in stock near its use-by or best-before date, which means it can sell products at a reduced rate.

Owned by Darren Ward, the Bristol store will be the fifth he has opened in the UK since starting the business seven to eight years ago.

"We do everything from pet food to cleaning products and chocolate," said Darren. "We just had in store a load of Christmas lights - 27 metres long - they're just a pound."

"I live in Weston and loads of people know what I do and everybody’s been saying open one in Bristol and open in Avomouth," he adds.

Darren, who has also set up bargain stores in Wigan, Birmingham and Plymouth, is helped to run the family business by his wife and four of his five children.

He says the business 'bloomed' through Covid and that he has decided to open the Bristol store to support people through the cost-of-living crisis.

"“It’s horrendous, people can’t afford things, we see it on a daily basis. It upsets you because people are working so hard."

Darren says there will be a range of offers for the opening, including a box of 15 bags of Wotsits which usually cost £1.25 a bag for just £2 a box.
