Services will be suspended on February 3

A major European airline has announced it is axing flights to Bristol from next month.

Bristol will be axed from the German Lufthansa network, as will flights to Liverpool's John Lennon airport.

Services between Frankfurt and Bristol with Lufthansa will be axed on February 3, which removes five weekly flights from the airport.

Lufthansa says it is evaluating and optimising its entire route network and the Bristol and Liverpool suspensions are due to having fewer aircraft available because of unscheduled maintenance work on engines in its fleet.

Lufthansa told Business Traveller: “The company has therefore decided to suspend some routes from February 2024 that have not shown a positive economic development in recent months. The routes to the UK affected are Munich – Orly, Frankfurt – Bristol and Frankfurt – Liverpool. Lufthansa regrets this decision.”

Lufthansa had originally planned launch flights to Bristol in March 2020 but these were delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, before eventually starting in June 2021.
