M5 Closure: Police ‘concerns for welfare’ halts traffic in both directions

The M5 has been closed in both directions between J19 (Portishead) and J20 (Clevedon) due to a police led incident which began at 8.12am this morning (November 22).

Emergency services including Avon & Somerset Police attended alongside National Highways Traffic Officers who were on scene assisting with traffic management.

A police spokesperson told Bristol World: “Officers were called to the M5 Southbound between Junction 19 (Gordano Services) and Junction 20 (Clevedon) at 8.12am today following reports of concern for welfare.

“The M5 was closed but has since been reopened in both directions.”

Traffic was reopened at around 10am.
