This morning, the M32 was closed between junction 2 and 3 along with the A4044 from the Bearpit roundabout to the Old Market roundabout for police investigation.

Just before 7am, the M32 reopened, but the other roads remained closed.

Shortly after 10am, all roads were clear and traffic was moving once more.

Avon and Somerset Police say the incident started when a Volkswagen being driven at excess speed failed to stop for officers in the York Road of Montpelier.

He was also taken to hospital to be checked over.

A second occupant, a teenage boy, was taken to hospital for injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

The driver of the second vehicle, a woman, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. She is undergoing emergency treatment.
