Lorry in Bristol harbour: Firefighters issue update

Firefighters have released an update after a lorry plunged into Bristol’s floating harbour this morning

The HGV, which was carrying costumes from new BBC series The Outlaws after filming in Bristol, went crashing into the water shortly after 7am.

Fire crews from Temple, Avonmouth and Bedminster arrived shortly afterwards.

The driver had already made it to safety and although he was seen being looked after by emergency services at the scene, did not appear to have been harmed.

The lorry was found to be initially ‘sinking’ but has since been secured by firefighters using two winches and nearby trees for additional support.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: “Three fire appliances, one heavy rescue tender and a boat were used to secure the lorry.

“A cordon was put in place and nearby boats evacuated to ensure safety on the scene.

“The lorry is now secure and firefighters, with a heavy rescue appliance and a boat, remain on scene to assist the recovery company in removing the vehicle.”
