Lord of the Rings star Sir Ian McKellen to bring new show to Bristol

The Gandalf actor will be performing at the Hippodrome this summer

Lord of the Rings star Sir Ian McKellen will appear in a new show at Bristol Hippodrome in July.

Player Kings is adapted from William Shakespeare’s Henry IV, Parts 1 and 2 and is to go on a UK tour following its London West End run.

The production will visit Bristol Hippodrome from July 3-6 and the Gandalf actor will play the part of John Falstaff.

McKellen will be joined by a cast that includes Toheeb Jimoh (Ted Lasso and Romeo and Juliet) and Richard Coyle (Ink and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore).

McKellen said: “Player Kings is a version of Shakespeare’s most English plays. So I am glad we are bringing our production across the country which they celebrate.”

The 84-year-old actor was last seen in Bristol when he appeared in Mother Goose at the Hippodrome in April 2023.

Player Kings is at Bristol Hippodrome from July 3-6 and tickets are on general sale via the website from March 22.
