Superstar singer Lewis Capaldi performed an intimate gig to a few hundred fans in Bristol and ended up singing a duet with one of them.

The Scottish musician played two sell-out shows at The Marble Factory to promote his new album, Broken By Desire to be Heavenly Sent, which is already the best-selling album of 2023 and predicted to be number one on Friday.

The Bristol show was one of a handful of intimate low-key appearances around the UK before Capaldi tours and plays major summer festivals including Glastonbury and Reading.

Before performing three songs, Capaldi took part in a Q&A session, during which he talked about the new album, his parents and even the time when he kissed Harry Styles (‘he tastes of glitter’).

He also touched on the issue of his own mental health and also Tourette’s Syndrome, which the singer was diagnosed with last year. Throughout the Q&A, fans could see the shoulder switches and tics caused by his condition.

Fans were then given the chance to ask the star questions and one gave him a sweatshirt which they had made for him and he wore it for the rest of the show.

Another fan called Yasmin asked if she could sing a duet with him and, to the surprise of the audience, Capaldi agreed.

She later joined him on stage to perform his best-known song, Someone You Loved, and the clearly impressed Capaldi hugged the fan at the end.

Capaldi also sang Wish You The Best and The Pretender, and many fans were so emotional at seeing the star at close quarters, rather than the usual stadiums, that they were in tears.

For a few fans, it would have been the smallest gig they had seen him perform since his first Bristol gig in September 2017, when he played to 80 people at the tiny Crofters Rights on Stokes Croft.

At the end of the show, Capaldi told fans: ‘You mean the world to me and even though I’ve enjoyed big success with the albums, I don’t take it for granted’.
