Kingsweston Iron Bridge links Blaise Castle estate to Kingsweston Fields and is a Grade II listed cast iron footbridge built around 1800.

The bridge was closed, secured and propped up by scaffolding following a series of strikes by a truck in 2015 until a long-term solution was made to make the footbridge more secure without damaging its historic nature.

Raising the structure up by just over a metre, adding steps at either end and fully repairing and restoring the bridge form part of the long-term restoration plan, which started in November 2023 when the bridge was dismantled and transported to a workshop in Bristol where the paint from all the parts is being removed to assess their condition.

Work on the stone abutments started on January 15 to build them up by 1.074m and is expected to be completed by April 30, when the bridge will be craned into place.

Kingsweston Iron Bridge is expected to reopen by July 2024 after a set of steps up to the bridge are installed.
