An ice cream man’s brazen attempt to cash in on the extreme heat wave over the summer in the busiest areas of Bristol city centre has landed him in hot water - again.

Dominic Abruzzo was caught selling from his van in the pedestrianised area of Penn Street and Broadmead outside Cabot Circus on April 30, June 19, and then July 16 - a prohibited area for street trading. He was also caught selling in Hotwells Road and Deanery Road/College Green by Bristol Cathedral without authorisation on July 16 and July 21 respectively.

This was not the first time he’d been caught over the offences. In 2018, he was fined for selling from Penn Street and Broadmead outside Cabot Circus during the heatwave of 2018, as reported by Bristol Live.

Last week, on Tuesday (November 15), Abruzzo, of Limeburn Hill in Chew Magna, was summoned by Bristol City Council to Bristol Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to three charges of engaging in street trading in a prohibited street, and two charges of engaging in street trading in a licence/consent street.

The city council had acted after receiving a complaint.

For each offence, Abruzzo was fined £300, which meant he was given a total fine of £1,500. He was also ordered to pay £900 in costs for the prosecution by Bristol City Council, and to pay a victim surcharge.
