The opening of a new theatre for dance in Bristol is being hailed as a ‘new era for dance in the South West’.

The 200-capacity venue in The Mount Without will launch with a week of performances and community events starting Friday, January 24.

It has been created by resident dance company Impermanence, who raised over £125,000 to install seating and a sprung stage in the former church on St Michael's Hill.

Joshua Ben-Tovim, co-director of Impermanence, described the launch as “an incredible opportunity to celebrate the power of dance in a space that fuses historic grandeur with contemporary artistry.

“The Mount Without is more than a venue; it’s a home for creativity and community.”

The grand reveal will take place on Friday, January 24 and Saturday, January 25 with Please Take Your Seats, a triple bill of dance featuring award-winning choreographers Mark Bruce and Seeta Patel, as well as work from Impermanence.

The evenings will conclude with panel discussions on the future of dance and the role of the new venue in supporting the sector.

Actor, playwright, theatre director and patron of Impermanence, Sir Mark Rylance, said: “This is set to be a wonderful new dance centre for Bristol.
