A Bristol charity has announced plans to sell part of its site for housing.

Children’s Scrapstore is looking to submit a planning application to build 12 new two-bed townhouses on two undeveloped plots of land on both sides of its current premises on Sevier Street in St Werburgh’s.

The charity, which seeks to encourage creative play and educational activities through the reuse of unwanted materials, says the development is needed to improve and future-proof its site.

In a Facebook post about the decision, Children’s Scrapstore wrote: “After over twenty years, we’re looking for ways to give our home some TLC.

“As well as enabling much-needed repairs and renovations, we want a building that is more accessible for everyone, sustainable for the planet and better equipped to grow as Children’s Scrapstore grows.

“To fund our ambitions, we are looking to submit a planning application to build 12 new homes on two plots of land that run adjacent to our building.

“Our aim is that with planning, we will sell the land to raise the money we require for much-needed renovations and to protect the long-term future of the building.

“In short, we’re keeping our building, but making some changes to the neighbouring land – all to continue to do what we love to do best - improve art and play opportunities for children, young people, and adults in Bristol, and beyond.”
