Labour's Helen Godwin claims victory in tight WECA mayoral race 2025

Labour candidate Helen Godwin triumphs in a closely contested WECA mayoral election, marking a significant win for the party in 2025.

Locals across Bristol, Bath and South Gloucestershire voted for the next West of England Combined Authority Mayor yesterday (May 1).

Overall, 205,557 ballots were cast with a 30% turnout.

Labour candidate Helen Godwin won the election with 51,197 votes.

Reform UK candidate came second with 45,252 votes, followed by Green Party’s May Page who had 41,094 votes.

Helen Godwin told the Local Democracy Reporting Service: "It was always going to be close we knew that."

Arron Banks commented: “Beating the Greens into third place and only finishing 5,000 behind Labour is an epic result for Reform!

“If we can do this in Bristol we can do it anyway.

“What this result shows if you vote Tory you get Labour ! Thanks to my home voters In South Gloucestershire who gave me a 7000 majority.”
