A man has been charged with driving offences after an Audi A1 collided with a tree in Hartcliffe yesterday (April 4) with a substance suspected to be cannabis found inside his vehicle.

Several police cars and two ambulances were sent to Wroughton Drive, temporarily blocking access in and out of the narrow street and its adjoining Wroughton Gardens. The Audi was spotted by officers patrolling in a marked police vehicle on nearby Mowcroft Road at about 1.40pm.

The car was driven away and officers lost sight of it before finding that it had been in collision with a tree on Wroughton Drive. Today (April 5), Marcus Williams, 30, of Upjohn Crescent, Hartcliffe, is due before Bristol Magistrates charged with; dangerous driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

Williams required hospital treatment for a head injury suffered during the crash which is not currently believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. A second man was examined by an ambulance crew on sight and did not need hospital treatment. Two other passengers from the vehicle fled the scene.

A police spokesperson told BristolWorld: “A substance suspected to be cannabis has been recovered from the vehicle and enquiries continue. If you saw the collision or have dashcam or other footage of the incident, please call 101 and give the reference 5223078103.”
