A community-led drive to save one of the last remaining pubs in Lawrence Weston is still pushing to halt plans for demolition to build houses on the site.
The Giant Goram pub, in Barrowmead Drive, closed its doors in 2019 and was earmarked for demolition soon after - however, plans to knock it down and build seven homes were turned down by Bristol City Council, before an appeal by the applicant was also dismissed.

The proposal comes as the pub appears listed for sale by estate agents Sidney Phillips Limited with a guide price of £349,000.
In response to the latest plans, campaign group called Giant Goram Community group has objected, suggesting the community space would be a temporary placeholder before another development featuring a garage or studio is built. The group held a public meeting earlier this month.
A group spokesperson told Bristol World: “It offers nothing to the local area. No affordable housing. The tiny ‘community space’ will be of no use to anyone so if the application is approved, they’ll be back within a year to turn it into a garage or studio to sell on with one of the houses.”

Each house would have a private garden with parking space provided for at least eight vehicles around the plot. So far, there have been 21 objections and four supporting statements lodged to the proposals. The site is still listed for sale by estate agents, Sidney Phillips Limited with a guide price of £349,000.
