Gallery: First look inside the brand new neighbourhood restaurant from Bristol chef Freddy Bird

It’s the latest opening from the owners of the city’s popular Little French restaurant

Bristol chef Freddy Bird and his wife Nessa have opened their third venue in the city.

The couple, who also run Little French in Westbury Park and the cafe/bakery Littleshop in Henleaze, have opened 1 York Place in the former Rosemarino restaurant in Clifton. The site was also the legendary York Cafe in the 1980s and 1990s.

With 46 covers, 1 York Place is a neighbourhood bistro serving European classics from France, Spain and Italy.

Starters include surf clams, confit tomato and chilli, and potato soup, black truffle and chanterelles. Mains include whole squid stuffed with pork rib and trotter rice, and hake, caramelised fennel, saffron, anis and clams.

A familiar face from TV’s Saturday Kitchen show, Freddy Bird has devised a number of dishes that are perfect for sharing.

These include hot roast shellfish, tarragon garlic and parsley butter; whole wood grilled monkfish tail, rosemary manteca, and roast suckling pig shoulder and fabada.

At lunchtime, the menu will offer a number of daily plates to enjoy with a glass of wine, including truffle tagliatelle and schnitzel Holstein, rocket, artichoke and Parmesan.

The restaurant space has been designed and conceived by Nessa Bird who also works front of house across all three sites.

1 York Place is open seven days a week, Monday-Saturday 12pm-midnight, and Sunday 12pm-4pm. To book, call 0117 244 7775 or via the website.
