But some customers have expressed concerns about not being informed about the closure in advance.

Barclays said customers were advised of the temporary closure by posters in branch, the branch finder website and proactive SMS messages to customers who regularly use the branch.

“Nice job Barclays UK with only one branch closing without telling your customers unless they actually come in,” wrote one social media user.

“Have you heard of email, text or WhatsApp to inform us? So much for being a Premier Business customer.”

A Barclays spokesperson said: “We can confirm the Barclays branch at 55 Broadmead, Bristol, will now be closed until Thursday October 31, while we undertake work to repair damage to the front of the building.

“For customers requiring in-person banking support during this time we have a Barclays Local service available in Westbury-on-Trym (Monday and Thursdays) and Kingswood (Tuesday and Thursdays) in the area. Barclays Local is a cashless banking alternative where customers can meet a colleague face-to-face for a variety of support.

“Alternatively, the nearest Barclays branch is 4-5 Southgate Street, Bath, BA1 1AQ.

They added: “In addition, everyday banking transactions can be completed at any Post Office, with the nearest located at 27 Broadmead Gallery, The Mall, Bristol.

“This includes Barclays business customers, who can pay in up to £10,000 per day, withdraw cash, as well as exchange coin.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers while the essential works are being undertaken.”
