'Recovery impossible': Fishing at popular lake near Bristol stopped over safety concerns

Boat fishing at Chew Valley Lake has been cancelled for the remainder of this year.

In a Facebook post, Bristol Water explained: “Due to persistently low water levels and safety concerns, we have made the difficult decision to cancel all boat angling on Chew Valley Lake for the remainder of the 2025 season, effective Monday, October 20th, 2025.

“The exposed boat hard makes safe launching and recovery impossible.

“What you need to know:

- Safety is our top priority. This decision was made in the best interest of staff and anglers.

- We will be contacting all existing boat bookings for refunds shortly.

- Fly bank angling and the pike bank trials will continue.

- This weekend's Garafit Cup and Celtic League Competition are still on!

“We sincerely apologise for this essential change and appreciate your understanding. We look forward to seeing you back on the boats in 2026.”
