Firefighters rush to Bedminster blaze in the early hours

Avon Fire and Rescue crews from Bedminster, Temple and Hicks Gate rushed to a blaze in Bedminster in the early hours of today (May 18).

They were responding to reports of a fire in East Street at 1.30am.

On arrival, crews found a fire affecting a three-storey building. Seven firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and crews using three high pressure hose reels and a turntable ladder extinguished the fire.

It is believed the fire took place in an abandoned building on East Street.

As a safety precaution, nearby Cannon Street was briefly closed as firefighters tackled the blaze.

The cause of the incident is unknown, and a fire investigation will take place later today.
