Fire crews rushed to the Finzels Reach area in central Bristol after an incident in a high-rise apartment block.

Eight fire engines, the turntable ladder and ambulance crews arrived at the scene just after 2pm on Saturday (February 18) and the area was cordoned off to the public.

The block of flats is opposite a Premier Inn hotel and close to the busy Left Handed Giant brewery pub.

One of the firefighters at the scene told Bristol World that there had been reports of a burning smell in the block.

The alarms were activated and the lift stopped with residents inside. They were rescued by the firefighters and there were no reports of injuries.

The fire crews were investigating the possible cause of the burning smell and checking the building.

Avon Fire & Rescue Service has been approached for comment.
