Fan amazed to bump into Benedict Cumberbatch at The Wave in Bristol

He said he was just ‘spending some time’ in the city

Hollywood actor Benedict Cumberbatch was spotted soaking up the rays in his wetsuit during a day out at Bristol’s unique surf destination, The Wave.

The 45-year-old Marvel Star even stopped to chat to fans who were amazed that he was in Bristol on Monday (June 27).

Regular visitor of The Wave, Jacob Kelly, was lucky enough to have sit-down with Benedict.

The mental health support worker from Bristol said: “At about 11.30am he sat down and had a little chat with us.

“I asked him what he was doing in Bristol and he said he was just spending some time here. I asked if he had been to Glastonbury but he said no.”

Benedict told Jacob that he did have FOMO (fear of missing out) about not attending the festival.

The huge event returned to Somerset on Wednesday 22 June after two years of cancellation due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Jacob had a positive experience meeting the actor who spent the whole day at The Wave.

“He said that he was at The Wave enjoying some surfing,” Jacob said. “He was really nice.

“My friend has just had her baby and so he sat and had a chat with us and then said he had to go. We told him to enjoy Bristol.”

Benedict has been spotted in the area before - back in 2021 he was seen enjoying a bottle of cider on Burrow Hill.

He was in the area filming for Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - the second film in his character’s solo franchise.

It was a complete coincidence that Jacob met Benedict, and he had no idea that his day would take such an interesting turn.

The Marvel star spent all day at The Wave.

“Mondays are my day off with my son,” he said. “This Monday, I met up with a friend of mine and her son and we were just chatting by the side of the water.

“I said I was pretty sure that’s Benedict Cumberbatch and he came across so I asked ‘do you mind if I get a picture?’

“He said ‘I’ll be honest, if I say yes to you, everyone else is going to ask me,’ so I said that I understood.

“We were saying that it must be so stressful, and then two minutes later, he ran over and said he was sorry and that he was happy to take the photo.

“It’s a really chilled atmosphere there. He was there most of the day and I think it was probably the best day for him - the weather was great and it was really quiet.”
