Education watchdog, Ofsted has been busy this month with inspectors publishing eight reports in the first week of March.
Thirteen other reports have been published on primary and secondary schools across Bristol in 2023 with the majority of those scoring a Good rating while two received Inadequate. The latest batch of reports covers primary schools, childcare establishments and a special school, New Fosseway School. Again, the majority received Good ratings while two managed to achieve Outstanding scores and one was ruled as requiring improvements.
Ofsted’s rating system is made up of four rankings, ‘Outstanding’ is the top rating a school can receive, ‘good’ is second, ‘requires improvement’ is the third and ‘inadequate’ is the worst.

5. Cotham Gardens Primary, Cotham
Cotham Gardens Primary was rated Good by Ofsted on March 7 following a visit on January 10. The inspector’s report concluded: “Pupils are fulsome in their praise of the school. Pupils and parents and carers say that they feel welcome and included. Pupils are tolerant. They enjoy finding out about each other’s cultures, beliefs and values. The school celebrates its diverse character."
6. Evergreen Primary School, Easton
Evergreen Primary School was rated Good by Ofsted on March 6 following a visit on January 11 and 12. The inspector’s report concluded: “Pupils are at the heart of this inclusive and diverse school. The Evergreen values of ‘be safe, respectful and caring’ are lived out by all members of the school community. Parents are overwhelmingly positive about the education their children receive. One parent commented, ‘Evergreen Primary Academy is a school that provides a healthy environment for children to study.’"
7. Manor House Nursey, Westbury-on-Trym
Manor House Nursey was rated Good by Ofsted on March 3 following a visit on January 31. The inspector’s report concluded: “Children thrive in the nursery environment, which is tailored to their interests and developmental needs. Babies explore sensory baskets and smile and look to adults when they find light-up items. Older children develop their early writing skills when they use pencils to mark make. The supporting adults extend their learning even further by introducing scissors, which children confidently use to make patterns on their paper. Children are enthusiastic to learn and embrace challenge."
8. New Fosseway School, Hartcliffe
New Fosseway School was rated Good by Ofsted on March 7 following a visit on January 10 . The inspector’s report concluded: “Pupils are happy at New Fosseway School. One pupil described it as ‘my second home’. Staff know pupils well. Relationships are strong. Staff help pupils to express their emotions and, as a result, pupils feel safe and behave well. Pupils help each other, and they say that bullying does not happen. They feel that staff would resolve it quickly if it did occur.”
