Customers of a Bristol city centre cocktail bar and restaurant have reacted with sadness following its sudden closure.

Aluna, on the corner of Broad Quay and Marsh Street, closed yesterday (January 1) after throwing a final New Year’s Eve party the day before.

With a focus on pan-Asian cuisine, Aluna operates a sister business at the Mailbox in Birmingham which is due to stay open.

Its Broad Quay branch has been open since 2015, occupying the former premises of Thai restaurant Thai EDGE.

In a statement announcing the closure on social media, Aluna wrote: “So Angels, we have some news… Aluna Bristol is taking a forever vacation.

“We want to say thank you for the good times, the bottomless brunches, the cocktail trees, setting drinks on fire and the Bristol cocktail weekends that kept the drinks a’sipping.”

One customer wrote: "Best cocktails of my life in there and I’ve been to a few cocktail bars. Great nights and lovely memories. Sad to hear."

Another added: "This is sad news indeed. Why such short notice? Lots of people would have loved to visit for 1 last cocktail!!"

And a third said: "Sad to see it go. My favourite venue to work as a doorman those few years ago."
