Major Weston Super Mare road remains closed following road collision

A key road in Weston Super Mare remains closed on Saturday morning following a road collision.

Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed a late night road collision has caused the closure of a major road heading to Weston Super Mare beach.

The incident occurred just after 11:30pm on Friday, June 20 and work is continuing in order to clear the road.

An update from the force on Saturday morning reads: “Officers remain at the scene of a two-car collision in Weston-super-Mare that happened at 11.35pm last night (Friday 20 June).

“Uphill Road North was closed overnight to enable collision investigation work to be carried out and remains shut while vehicle recovery work is ongoing.

“We understand it's a busy route and will ensure the road is reopened as soon as possible, but ask for people’s patience while this take place.”

The road acts as a key route towards the town’s centre and coastal areas from the southern area of Uphill.

It comes as coastal areas are expected to ve very busy on Saturday as a heatwave continues to impact the UK, bringing expected highs of 26°C to the town over the weekend.
