A ‘bring your own booze’ restaurant near Bristol that only opened its doors in June has won the ‘newcomer of the year’ in a national competition.

Coco Buffet in St James Street, Weston-super-Mare, scooped the top prize in the annual Asian Restaurant And Takeaway Awards 2023.

The award ceremony took place at the weekend at Hilton Park Lane, London, and was hosted by TV presenters Samantha Simmonds and Paul Martin.

The Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards is the most prestigious celebration of Pan Asian cuisine in the UK, honouring Asian restaurants all over the UK.

Coco Buffet is a buffet-style ‘eat as much as you like’ restaurant with a set price menu and you can take your own alcohol.

At lunchtime, it costs £14.99 for adults and £9.99 for children. In the evening, it’s £19.99 for adults and £12.99 for children.

On Sundays, the price is the same all day - £17.99 for adults and £12.99 for children.

Although cuisines from all around the world are served, the Indian and Thai dishes are said to be the specialties.

Coco Buffet opened in June and has already become a firm favourite with locals in Weston-super-Mare.

Customers posting reviews on Tripadvisor have praised the restaurant for its food, prices and service.

One diner said: “I love food here, the curries are amazing and they work hard make sure everything is fresh and replenished.”

Another remarked: “The food was beautiful, so tasty and there was so much of it. The service was spot on, they were attentive and super friendly. I’d definitely recommend to anyone to give it a try.”
