A planespotter took dramatic footage of Ryanair and easyJet flights landing at Bristol Airport in strong winds during Storm Eunice.

Pilots coming into the airport had to skilfully land in winds of up to 68mph due to the difficult conditions caused by Friday’s storm at the airport in North Somerset.

The conditions became so difficult that some flights had to take at least one attempt to land, while one flight from Kaunas was forced to divert to Birmingham Airport.

For most of the morning, the Met Office had a red weather warning in force for the area.

However, as this video shows, pilots were still able to bring down passengers safely. They can also be heard in the video calmly talking to air traffic control ahead of each landing.

The second part of the footage is a Ryanair flight from Alicante which appears to hang briefly above the runway before landing safely.

The footage was taken by planespotter Mraviationguy, who was filming from 7am until 2.40pm.

He said: “This was the strongest wind I’ve ever experienced while plane spotting - the wind was blowing at 68mph at one point.”

He added: “What you’re seeing is the product of thousands of flying hours, and thorough safety standards and expert decision making.

“I wouldn’t say I get nervous - you just know the pilots will always put safety first and if there was an real danger to life, they would abort the landing and try again, or divert.”

The planespotter was at the airport again today with Storm Franklin bring strong winds again.

On today, he said: “A few wobbling approaches and bumpy landing but nothing too extraordinary.”
