Easter is very nearly here and Bristolians are no doubt keeping their fingers crossed, hoping for a sun-soaked break to kick off spring. Will we get the good weather we’re dreaming of over the upcoming bank holiday?

Most of the UK has experienced tumultuous weather over the course of the last few weeks, especially after the arrival of Storm Mathis last week. Rainfall has been battering the country, with strong winds and chilly temperatures, whereas today (April 3) we’ve seen much brighter spells in the south west.

Easter bank holiday starts on Good Friday (April 7) and runs until Easter Monday (April 10). The city’s schools will be breaking up for their Easter holidays for just under two weeks from April 3 to April 14, just in time for an Easter Egg hunt or two.

With that in mind here’s what we can expect from the weather in Bristol over Easter, according to the Met Office.

This week and Good Friday

Turning cloudier and breezier from the west on Wednesday with rain later. Showery rain on Thursday, but turning brighter later. Mostly dry albeit rather cloudy on Friday. Temperatures around average.

Weekend including Easter Sunday and beyond

On Saturday, high pressure will likely dominate with dry conditions and bright sunny spells for most. A chance of thicker cloud in the far west, with the potential for some patchy light rain in a few spots.

Sunday and Monday will most likely see a continuation of these conditions although confidence is lower, with a chance that some rain and strong winds could move in from the west.

Towards mid-April, there is a chance of a period of more unsettled conditions bringing spells of wetter and windier weather more widely, however confidence is low. Temperatures are likely to be near normal or slightly above, although these may drop quickly under any clear skies after dark, leaving scope for some overnight frosts.
