An Earth Day Spring Clean up will take place in Bristol this Sunday (April 21).

The event is organised by the world’s leading outdoor brand, The North Face, and forms part of a series of hikes taking place around the UK and the rest of Europe.

The initiative was inspired after the Policy Exchange’s 2023 Litterbug 2.0 Report in the UK estimated that if all the plastic bottles and non-alcoholic cans littered throughout Europe each year were stacked end to end, they would form a peak roughly 10,000 times higher than Mont Blanc (the highest peak in Europe).

Last year, The North Face cleaned more than 6500km of trails Europe-wide, and in 2024 they’re back for more, recruiting from all corners of The North Face community, athletes, ambassadors, and consumers alike, to make this year’s round-up of clean-up hikes the biggest yet.

The Bristol clean-up hike will take place on Sunday (April 21) starting at Trek Bicycle Bristol, Embassy House, Queen's Ave, Bristol BS8 1SB.

The event is held by Trash Free Trails and the team from Trek and will focus on cleaning the Ashton Court area of town. The North Face Explorer and runner, Elise Downing, will also be at the Bristol event.

The morning starts at the Trek Store in town at 11am for a leisurely start and free coffee before riding out to the Ashton Court area for a clean up and trash survey and finishing up with free drinks at the pub.

If you don’t have a bike to join in, local TFT Community Hub Pedal Progression are offering discounts on bike hires for the day. And if you fancy joining on foot, the trail clean at Ashton Court will start from 12.30pm. A specific location will be sent to attendees closer to the time.

There will be North Face Prizes for the weirdest and most wonderful trail clean finds, as well as some free rewards for taking part.
