To celebrate 30 years of rescuing and rehoming abandoned and unwanted cats and dogs, Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary has partnered with Bristol World to showcase 11 dogs currently hoping for their forever home.
During their stay at the sanctuary, each dog receives quality nutrition and veterinary care from hardworking staff.
Holly Hedge founder, Pauline Leesome said: “Some come to us with broken hearts, broken bones and broken spirits and it is our mission to put them back together and make them whole again. Holly Hedge receives no government funding and relies on fundraising and the goodwill of our supporters to keep our gates open for the insurmountable numbers of pets needing our help. Please look at our website www.hollyhedge.org.uk to see our animals needing homes and ways in which you can help or donate. Thank you for caring.”

5. Jaxon
This handsome boy is looking for a special home with someone who is used to bigger dog breeds and can provide him with plenty of affection. Jaxon doesn’t like to be left alone and needs to be the only dog in the home, where he can lap up all the attention for himself. Jaxon has recently undergone surgery on his cruciate ligament, from which he is recovering well, though the sanctuary cannot be completely certain that he won’t need any further surgery in the future. He is also on a special raw diet to help him combat allergies. Now that he’s had his life changing surgery, the team has put this special boy back on its website so that he can soon find his forever home. Jaxon is very friendly towards people he meets, but can be reactive towards other dogs. He will need a quiet, calm and experienced home.
6. Rolo and Fudge
Rolo and Fudge came to Holly Hedge due to their former owner’s ill health. This bonded duo of boys are known to be a little nervous of new people to start with, Fudge in particular, whereas Rolo is more confident. But both are fine once they get to know you and will just shower you with love and kisses. Rolo and Fudge have been seen by our vet and given a clean bill of health apart from needing a scale and polish to their teeth, which has now been done. They both enjoy their walks and running around off lead in our secure field. They also enjoy expressing their opinion of the world in general by being fairly vocal. They are described as being great characters, full of fun. These two adorable boys are sure to bring enormous joy to their ‘forever home.’ The Holly Hedge team are looking for a calm home in a more rural environment, where they will get the company and love that they are used to having.
7. Arthur
Arthur came to Holly Hedge as a stray and was not in the best of condition with chronic skin dermatitis and in urgent need of dental care. With the help of creams, antibiotics, bathing and a lot of TLC from his carers, his skin has healed up beautifully and he has recovered well from his dental surgery, having had 14 teeth extracted. Arthur has some quirky ways, preferring to use the outside area of his kennel as opposed to the warm inside area. The team has been slowly introducing him to indoor areas at the sanctuary such as the staff room, which he is becoming more confident with. Arthur can be a bit hit and miss with humans, warming to some, but not so much to others, though he is great with most other dogs and could potentially live with one if it’s the right match. He walks nicely on the lead, but is very strong when he sees something of interest that he wants to get closer to. Although Arthur looks like a large confident dog, he really is not, being easily spooked, so for that reason he would love a home in a rural area where there is little passing traffic. Arthur is looking for a calm home with someone who has experience with nervous dog and his his own outside space initially, so that any potential adopter can work with him to help build up his lack of confidence and gain his trust to the point where he will happily go in and out of the house of his own accord and enjoy the benefits of a cosy warm bed indoors.
8. Max
Max is being rehomed as he is becoming a little wary of the children in his home, and has nipped one of the children as a result. Despite this, he is described by the team as a very loving lad once he gets to know you. He loves his long walks and grooming sessions at home and in particular the hair dryer. Max is not great around male dogs but is accepting of some female dogs when out for a walk. For Max, Holly Hedge is looking for an experienced adult only home, of nervous dogs, ideally a couple, in a calm environment who will allow Max the time to build up his confidence at his own pace.
