A woman drowned in her garden fish pond in Yate, an inquest opening heard.

Housewife Christine Hopkins, aged 64, was found unresponsive after falling into the pond at her Milton Road property on November 15 last year, Avon and Somerset Coroner’s Court heard this morning (Wednesday, January 5).

The provisional causes of death were given as drowning and acute alcohol toxicity.

Area coroner for Avon, Peter Harrowing, adjourned the hearing, and a full inquest will take place at the same court on March 16.
