Police have issued an update on a murder investigation launched after a man’s death in Southville. The man, whose age and identity have not yet been formally announced, was pronounced dead at a Victorian terrace facing the New Cut on Coronation Road on Thursday (March 2) afternoon.
Over the weekend, detectives were working inside the property, which was taped off and had an officer stood guarding the doorway. Officers were also seen carrying out high-visibility patrols in the area.
On Friday, Avon and Somerset Police had said a 41-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of murder and was being held in custody for questioning. Today, the force said the man had since been released under investigation. A post mortem of the deceased man’s body was yet to be concluded.
On announcing the murder investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Mark Almond said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this incredibly distressing time for them. We will seek to provide them with support through a specially-trained family liaison officer as our investigation develops.
“We are not aware of their being any increased risk to the public’s safety, but we fully appreciate the concern this incident will cause within the community, therefore local officers will be carrying out more high-visibility patrols in the area. They will be happy to speak with anyone to alleviate those worries.”
