Salisbury tunnel train crash: Pictures after emergency services rescue people from the carriages

Around 100 people were rescued from two trains which collided in Salisbury yesterday evening (October 31).

The crash happened at Fisherton Tunnel between Andover and Salisbury in Wiltshire, yesterday evening at around 7.30pm.

At least two helicopters landed at the scene, while police and ambulance crews arrived on the ground.

In a statement late last night, British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed there were no fatalities in the incident, but a “small number” of people, including the driver of one of the trains, were taken to hospital to have their injuries ass

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “At around 7pm this evening, the rear carriage of the 1708 Great Western Railway service from Portsmouth Harbour to Bristol Temple Meads derailed after striking an object on its approach to Salisbury station.

“The derailment knocked out all of the signalling in the area. Subsequently, the 1720 South Western Railway service from London Waterloo to Honiton then collided with the Bristol train.”

Here are pictures from the scene last night and this morning.
