Portway reopens as police bring man to safety

The Portway in Bristol has reopened following a police incident sparked by concerns for a man’s welfare.

Officers were called at about 7.30am this morning (Tuesday, June 21) after witnesses spotted the man in distress.

The road was sealed off for over four hours will officers located and engaged with the man, causing heavy traffic to build up along the Cumberland Basin and Hotwells Road.

At about 1pm this afternoon the man was brought to safety, police have now confirmed, and is being assessed by paramedics.
